Dear Parents,

West St Paul Parade tomorrow!  Our St. Joseph's Marching Band, under the direction of Ms. Quinlan, will be featured in the parade.  We are also looking for as many students / families as possible to participate in this fun event that gives great visibility to our school.  The parade begins at 1:00 pm with a 12:30 pm line up.  Please bring bags of "small" candies for students to pass out during the parade.  Hope you can join us - wear your "spirit wear" or uniform for an out-of-uniform pass.  Parents are asked to accompany younger students.  The more families the better!  The parade gives us an opportunity to have fun together and show our school pride!  Click here for a WSP Parade flyer.

A volunteer sign up form for Fitness Fun Day on Thursday, May 31 went home May 3.  Fitness Fun Day, sponsored by the Physical Education Department, is a fun day for the students.  They will spend half the day participating in games and relay events and then will be treated to a barbecue hot dog lunch, sponsored by the Home and School Assn.  Click here for a volunteer form.  Your help is needed and appreciated.  The 7th graders will be going bowling at Cedarvale Lanes in Eagan for their Fun Fitness activity.  Information and a permission slip went home with 7th graders last week.

The Home and School Association is looking for presenters (especially kindergarten) for the Art Adventure program through the Mpls. Institute of Arts for the next school year (2012-2013).  If you are interested in being a classroom presenter, please contact Michele Mingo at themingos@comcast.net.

A wonderful opportunity for parents to save our school money and help maintain our building at the same time!  A St. Joe's Paint-A-Thon will be held this summer on June 7th, 8th, and 9th.  Get involved and join other St. Joseph's families.  There are many areas that need your help!  Click here for flyer information.

Keep those Box Tops coming!  The last turn in day is next week Friday, May 25.  Our Home and School Association receives several thousand dollars each year from this project.

We have openings in all grade levels.  Please refer St. Joseph's to family, friends and neighbors.

Spring pictures
went home last week.  All students had their pictures taken for preview.  If you wish to purchase pictures (all or part of the package), see the payment envelope inside each picture packet.  Lifetouch will be picking up unpurchased pictures on Tuesday, May 22nd.

Padre Mario Ochoa of Guatemala and the Board of Directors of Grace Centre would like to thank the wonderful parents, students and faculty of St. Joseph's School for the overwhelming support of our work with families in Guatemala.  Together, our school and parish raised $7,000!  The financial donation as well as the very warm welcome mean so very much to Padre Mario.  The monies collected over Lent are enough to bring doctors into the medical clinic for almost a whole year!  Many families will know they are loved by your donation.  We especially want to thank Mrs. Monahan for her planning and coordination.  If you would like to learn more about Grace Centre, please contact Mary Bretzman at mbretzman@yahoo.com.

District lunch monies will carryover for the 2012-2013 school year.  Balances may be transferred from one sibling to another.  Negative student lunch account balances are not allowed for the rest of this school year.  The last lunch menu sent home goes through May 30th.  The last day of hot lunch (Friday, June 1) will be "Cook's Choice".  There will be no hot/bag lunch available on Thursday, May 31 because of Fitness Fun Day and the Hot Dog Barbecue lunch.  We will update students on the cook's choice" at a later date.

It's not too late to participate in the 2nd Annual Adult Kickball Tournament (Fallfest Event).  Have fun while raising funds for improved educational opportunities for our kids!  Click here for registration details.

Today was our eighth grader's last school mass.  Tonight they will enjoy a special dinner/dance and on Monday, May 21 will be their graduation rehearsal day with jr. high end-of-the year awards at 2:05.  Parents are welcome to attend.  Eighth grade graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 22 at 6:30 pm followed by the 8th graders going to Valley Fair for their class trip on Wednesday, May 23.

With the end of school just around the corner, please remember that diplomas, report cards and student files will be held until all tuition and band fees are current.  Contact Mike Snyder, parish administrator, if you have questions or special needs (651-457-2781).

Upcoming Activities:  kindergartners will be going to Mud Lake to look for signs of spring on Monday, May 21 and Mr. Cina's 5th grade class will be going to the Cherokee Restaurant on Monday, May 21 for their Marathon Reward day,

At today's mass, the School Board recognized students for their leadership and participation in extra-curriculars.  Both individual and group accomplishments were highlighted.  Students were treated to a cookie and short recess after mass.  My thanks to Jamie Rued for representing the School Board and making the recognition announcements.

Several teachers have received teacher requests for the upcoming year.  The Parent/Student handbook (pg. 31) states that the "classroom teacher, because of their knowledge of each student's strength and needs, is best suited to make classroom placement".  If there is a special circumstance, please make those requests directly through the Principal.

Please join us for our next all-school mass on Friday, May 25 at 9:00 am in the church.
